The Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies, the University of Lund and the University of Copenhagen are holding a one-week intensive course for MA and advanced BA students, focusing on Theories and Methodologies in Area Studies. This school is co-sponsored by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The course, which aims to provide practical training on methods for MA and BA students who are writing their theses will take place on 12-17 March in Tartu.
Useful theoretical and methodological approaches within Area Studies will be introduced, including cultural theories, ethnography, literary approaches, working with quantitative data, history and memory studies, discourse theory and content analysis.
Participants will be involved in a series of lectures, seminars, hands-on workshops and field trips to cultural sites around Tartu and Tallinn. The course also offers a great opportunity for students to discuss their research ideas with peers and academic staff from the Universities of Lund, Copenhagen and Tartu.
The course constitutes 5 ECTS and is assessed by a 5-8-page essay, which must be submitted 3 weeks after the end of the course.
